
Stanley Island is an exclusive, unique piece of land situated near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa.
Stanley Island measures 27,4 hectares and visiting it could be described as a truly African experience.
The Island is situated two hours drive from Port Elizabeth (200 km), and one hours drive from George (100 km) in the Keurbooms River.
Port Elizabeth and George host domestic daily flights with weekly flights into Plettenberg Bay.
Vegetation
The vegetation could truly be described as a magnificent example of the Eastern Cape Coastal Bush. Various succulent coastal types, as well as dense coastal bush predominantly occupies the Island. Many indigenous tree species are also resident on the Island, Milk woods and Wild Olives to name but a few. The dense brush has been carefully manicured in order to gain various access points, and to create a truly African Bush character.
Bird & Wildlife
Bird life is abundant on the Island. It ranges from the ever present coastal wader species, which is made up of Plovers, Jacanas, Herons, Gulls and others, to the bush varieties including Cysticulas, Honey guides, Apalis, Warblers and some garden varieties such as Mouse Birds, Sun Birds, Drongos, White-eyes etc. The raptors in the area include, African Fish Eagles, Falcons, Kites etc. A comprehensive bird list is available for visitors. There are also some Greybuck and Springbuck on the island.
Airstrip - Runway 18/36
Aircraft with a weight of less than 5400 kg may utilize the strip. Various sizes of aircraft have utilized the strip over time, but 4 and 6 seater aircraft have been the most common.
The 20 year old 1000m grass runway is 40m wide and suitable for light aircraft. The GPS location is S 34º00’24.5” E023º24’00.6” elevation 9ft. Please keep circuit flying to a minimum and throttle back for noise reduction as soon as it is safe to do so. Please phone in advance to let us know of your intended arrival times. Non-residents landing fees R100. No hangerage available.
Pets
Unfortunately due to the wildlife on the island pets are not allowed.
Parking
Secure parking is available on the mainland.
Ferry
We have two full time ferry operators. They both have cell phones and you can phone them at any time to ferry you. Please note that ferry trips for clients staying on the island are free except after 9pm when a fee is charged. Non-residents are charged R10pp.
